| Tutorial How to Capture Any kind of media and use for MXM Including Streaming media |
Ray12944 from Xbox-Scene contributed this great Camtasia Tutorial:
I must give credit to RolfLobker from xbox scene for Part of this tutorial , I'm
just adding the capture stuff
Also to BenJeremy for The best menu prog out there Media X Menu,
and Strongbad For his Great Generator Skin
NOTE: Using this method You'll only get the quality that you see on your monitor
Ex. crappy quality stream, You get really crappy movie - ok?
Here's a great sample I captured from Xbox.com, not bad
I'd say, compare it and
see GothRacing.wmv
its the one called Project Gotham Racing - Video 1
Ok here we go!
Things you'll need
Camtasia Studio (get it HERE
or HERE
(you might have to fill in some info for free trial)
- VirtualDub (get it HERE)
- Total Recorder (get it HERE)
- Windows Media Encoder (get it HERE)
First things First you MUST disable "hardware acceleration" in your
machine ,this allows the video to be captured.
Windows XP you do it like this:
Go to "Display Properties" >> "Settings Tab" >>
Press "advanced Options" >> "Troubleshoot" Tab
There should be a Slider saying how much hardware acceleration you want, Slide it
all the way to Zero and press ok (it might be different in your machine I don't
know) If problems recording try to disable in media player too
Ok then
Now fire up Camtasia recorder (Which comes with Camtasia Studio) you have to
change a few setting before you capture anything, I recommend you get rid of
those Daily tips, they get annoying fast (click don't show tip again)
On the top there's a little Icon of a hand pointing to a white paper (I think),
press it. These are the Video and Tools Option
On the AVI Tab Under "Video Output" Uncheck Auto Configure
Now you can put how many frames per second you want to capture, This is a
setting that If you have a good System you can go as high as you want or you
might have to stay low, like 50 or 60, for my machine about 100 frames/sec was
good before video dropped frames while recording
150 frames/sec would be ideal
Now Press the Video Setup Button, if you have a good System , you might want to
go with uncompressed but since mine is not too good I noticed that Divx was the
best results, I Dunno Why! (you would have to have the divx codec)
OK Now Audio Setup, Dont worry leave it at default
Finally press OK
Now on the "Capture" menu make sure the "output" is set on
File
Now check the effects menu
in "Cursor" make sure Hide Cursor is selected
and in "Audio" Audio or No Audio? Its up to you
No matter what, you're not going to get the audio like this unless you put your
MIC to the speaker but yull get terrible quality like this, so if you don't want
audio I suggest you check "Record Audio"
WHY?! Because in order to convert to wm8 Format the movie needs to have an audio
stream, So like this you make one, even though there's nothing on it, you save a
lot of steps in placing the audio in later
NOW IF you're sure you want to go the extra mile and get the movies audio also,
Uncheck the "Record Audio" Because This relieves a lot of CPU and
makes things run smoother, and since you're gonna put in the audio later you
don't
need to worry about keeping an audio stream in there, Most game trailers have
cool music, so I rather hear each games sound than the background music, but
that's just me
Ok now where ready to capture
Fire up the movie or the site that has the movie you want and pause it this is
just to see
What space it uses on screen
Note: If you are playing the video in quicktime or Media player etc and not on
the site itself, don't make the video like almost full screen, leave it at 100
percent size or maybe a little bigger , Just remember that the bigger the space
you're capturing the more likely the video will skip frames (too much cpu), and if
it looks blocky, you'll get a blocky video because
the better the video looks on screen the better the capture will be cause its
actually just capturing exactly what's on screen
now
Go to "Capture" Menu >> INPUT and select Fixed Region
you'll get a little window asking for settings , Press the SELECT button and with
the little hand with tiny +
Click and Drag the area of the movie you want to record only and press ok
OK Now the moment of truth Press record and Play the video, Or visa versa if you
want to Start recording like in the middle of the video, you can.
When the video finishes press stop and WoW, you get to save the AVI File.
Once you save it you'll get a preview of the video you just captured, if you like
it keep it, if you messed up do it again
Note: If you want the Video without Sound (you had your audio Setting to record
sound) Skip to Step CONVERT TO WM8 because your done but if you wanted the movie
sound also, continue on
Ok We have the Video Now lets get the Audio
Open Up "Total Recorder" (it has a time limit of 40 secs if not
registered)
Now guess what, Play the same video and press record to get the audio
When done save the Wave file, preferably where you saved the video but it
doesn't matter
Now Open up "Virtual Dub" (this program will combine the audio and
video into one)
Make sure that the settings in both video and audio are checked in "Direct
Stream Copy" now
Go to File "Open Video File" And open the Movie You captured
Note: you might want to give it a little edit here , like deleting a little off
the start
if you started recording to soon or stopped to late etc. read the help to learn
how
ok now go to "Audio" and Select "Wav Audio" choose the audio
file you just recorded
That's it, Preview play it if you want but you just have to save it
Goto "File" >> "Save as AVI.." >> and name it
whatever you want
Now you have a Beautiful movie ready to convert to WM8 File for MXM
CONVERT TO WM8
ok now open "Windows Media Encoder" and select
Broadcast, capture, or convert a file using the New Session Wizard]
--> [OK]
[Convert an audio or video file into a Windows Media file]
--> [NEXT]
[File to convert:] (<-Select your sourcefile)
[File to Create:] (<-Select your destination)
--> [NEXT]
[File will stream from a Web server or play directly on a computer]
--> [NEXT]
[What profile do you want to use?]
- Select "High motion video for broadband NTSC (1500 Kbps total)
or High motion video for broadband NTSC (768 kbps) (this is less quality but
saves a lot of HD space)
--> [FINISH]
After Windows Media Encoder finishes your .WMV is ready for use in MediaXMenu.

Tip to remove to step!!!!!!
Encoding Audio with Camtasia
In Camtasia, under option, little Icon of a hand pointing to a white paper,
Audio option choose your sound card( me is SB live audio) leave all the rest
like they where.
On your window, chose volume control (under Accessories -->Entertainment)
option--> properties
select record option-->choose wav/mp3 recording.
Then you should have audio when encoding!! :-)
